Credit: “Let’s talk Religion” Youtube Channel – for the above chart. This was the best chart I found online that clearly outlines the different Shia (aka Shi’ite) sects.
The Zaydi Shias are especially interesting. Zayd, the son of Ali ibn Husayn, apparantly led a rebellion against the Ummayad dynasty (the same group that killed Imam Husayn as), and he was unsuccessful and was killed. He was supported by both sunnis (particularly Abu Hanifa), and shia or lovers of ahlul bayt. It is said his failed uprising was the seeds that started the eventual overthrow of the Ummayad dynasty and was replaced by the Abbasid dynasty, whom loved the family of the prophet and kicked off the Islamic ‘Golden Age’. UPDATE:
After more research, I have discovered that there are in fact many more Shia Sects than the diagram above shows.
