The one thing the arabs lacked at the time of the prophet, was unity. They were tribal, divided, and poor. Islam came, and one of its goals and miracles was to unify the un-unified Arab tribes. This was done through the leadership of Allah through the prophet Muhammad (s.a.w). It did not take long for the muslims to become divided, before becoming unified again, and then this cycle repeating itself over and over again. Today we are in a world where the Muslims are very divided. What’s more, we have foreign armies occupying Islamic lands. What’s more, we have active settler colonies that are ethnically cleaning muslims from the lands. What is even more, is that we have our natural resources being stolen from the lands.
This present state of affairs, which has been so for at least since World War I, after the fall of the Ottoman empire, has caused the muslim population to have a lower self-esteem and an inferiority complex. The muslim ummah, is not only segmented, however it sees itself as inferior to the rest of the world. Most muslims would see the Christian west as more advanced culturally, intellectually, and economically. They would see this benefit as being a direct result of their intelligence and ideals, and seek to adopt those ideal and abandon the muslim world or their personal muslim identity. There are others, like myself, that believe society, culture, technology, and advancement is a byproduct of a high level ideals that a nation is willing to fight for.
The Americans obtained their independence first from the British, it was only then that the nation was able to keep all of its economic wealth and growth, and grow exponentially from within. Then again America had to fight a very deadly civil war, back and supported by outside powers, that sought to divide America and keep it weak. The Americans paid a very heavy price where 1/3 of the population had died. Only then, did it grow to become the richest, most powerful nation ever known about in the history of the world – dominating the globe many times over at the present time, and being a relevant global power for over a hundred years. This was all made possible through the vision, writings, and acts of a few men. Leaders.
The world power prior to that was the British/UK. The British fought for decades against the various factions to unify their land. Being an Island, and being easily raided from the seas, it was forced to develop a strong navy, which it did. Through war and struggle, it was able to extend its power to the entire world, dominating for hundreds of years. This started with the deliberate vision, writing, and acts of a small number of men. Leaders.
In the Muslim world, no one has any substantial vision to promulgate. The Iranians are busy dealing with their own local issues and do not seem to have a plan for the muslim world at large. Ayatollah Khomenei in fact does have a vision, however his message, for whatever reason has not seeped down to the common man. Further, it does not seem like Iran has a plan to exert their influence politically or economically to the region. If they do, please comment on this post to share this information.
There needs to be a vision for the future of the muslim ummah politically and individually. The shia muslims for example are already a minority sect within Islam, and yet they do not have a centralized power structure. For example, in Islam there is a requirement to give to Khums (charity). However there is not designated authority to which you must pay this khums to. (Refer to article here about khums and zakat)
The fact of the matter is, we need leaders. We need reformers. We need people who excel in business and education. We need to get rich, smart, powerful. We need to teach and help each other and the next generation. Instead, spiritually, we have muslims that would rather teach each other how to get spiritual powers to see the future or to sit next to the prophet in the afterlife – thanks to their recitation of Sura’t Al-Jinn 20,000 times. This ridiculousness is devil worship. The devil seeks to deceive us, waste our time on nonsense, do everything to get us away from living our best life and true potential while staying away from haram.
Where is our Gorge Washington? Where is our Kind Edward? Where is our Saladin? Where is our writers, lovers, thinkers, theologians, orators, etc? We have leaders among our community, however they are financed by Western Intelligence to destroy Islam from within, or they are motivated by the devil to promote you egos and fuel our fears.
I will write a few posts on this theme, to show why we as muslim individuals are not living lives where we can create space to become leaders. We do not need just one leader, we need hundreds of leaders that can help lead the way for other muslims to prosperity and good values.
